Earlier today the news broke of the NBA Live series being rebranded NBA Elite and with that a drastic shift in the direction of the franchise. Now thanks the OXM preview in its July edition it is revealed that the game will also be introducing real-time physics. In addition to that the heavy reliance on analog sticks will mean both dribbling and shooting are mapped to the right stick. It was just last week we learned that EA Sports is introducing real-time physics in the NHL series. Both ga...

ESPN is reporting that 2K Sports is making a strong push to try and sign Michael Jordan for the cover of NBA 2K11. At this point it is just a rumor from unnamed sources but apparently it would represent more than just a marketing deal. ESPN goes on to state that Jordan would be included as a playable character in the game and the company would attempt to buy the rights to several other individuals from Jordan's playing days. If the rumors are true, it will mark the first time that a former pl...

The first indications that the NBA Live franchise was in the midst of going through a transformation of sorts began making their way out in early February. Talk of the series going in a different direction came from departing team members which EA Sports did little to deny. Now the first signs of big change are being to be discovered, and prior to E3 where it is likely that at least some of the vision for the game will be laid out. The NBA Live name is no more. This year's NBA title from EA...

After receiving over 3000 submissions for the NBA Jam catchphrase contest EA Sports has narrowed it down to a field of 64. The four brackets each receive their own day this week to accept voting on the first round matchups. The catchphrase that eventually comes out of each bracket will be included in the game. The catchphrases aren't just laid out in text but they were recorded by the voice of the game Tim Kitzrow and you can listen to audio for each one. You can check them all out on the g...

NBA Live 11 and NBA 2K11 will be releasing on Tuesday October 5th. It now appears that too could end up being the date for the release of NBA Jam on the Wii. We've known for sometime that the game was set to release in Q3 (October-December) but it was uncertain where it would fall in that range. No release date has been confirmed for NBA Jam (and may not be for some time) but indications are it will also release on October 5th. EA Sports does not release NBA Live on the Wii so there would b...
  • NBA Jam May Not Have Online Play or Roster Updates

When EA Sports was questioned as to why Gilbert Arenas was omitted from the list of players to vote on for the rosters of NBA Jam, they were quick to point out that if he was left off the initial roster he could always be added later in a roster update. First Cuts has now received an updated response which backs off the suggestion that roster updates will be provided for the game. IGN has also noted that the game may not have any online support at all. The team also isn't completely ruling ou...

EA Sports has released another set of screenshots for the remake of NBA Jam. The five new screens can be found in the gallery. The Wii exclusive game (XBL/PSN next year) still does not have a set release date but is expected out in the October-December quarter. When EA Sports first introduced the voting for which three players to include from each team it seemed like a nice way to involve the fans. That was before the release date being late in the year was known though, largely invalidatin...
