Last year Madden 10 was the top sports game in November and the series has traditionally done well over the holidays. However given the huge sales boost that NBA 2K11 received the expectation was that game would maintain its lead. Despite NBA 2K11 doubling its opening month sales in October and finishing in first place it fell to ninth in November while Madden 11 landed in fourth. (more…)...

The first inside look yet at what led to the cancellation of NBA Elite 11 has been provided today by Kotaku who interviewed Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello. In what amounts to a step-by-step recollection Riccitiello is forthright with details on what was happening behind the scenes and why the final decision was made. (more…)...

NBA Jam for the PS3 and 360 was at one time a highly anticipated game. The remake, with the license having been acquired by EA Sports, would originally be announced as a Wii exclusive. Everyone though fully expected it would make its way to the HD consoles. Soon it was announced as being a "free" pack-in with NBA Elite 11. Even at that time there were many people who planned on buying Elite in order to obtain NBA Jam. Over the following months the desire for the game dissipated at an alarmi...

The recent release of NBA Jam, and the rumor of EA Sports possibly reviving NFL Blitz, prompted some thinking on my part as to the future of arcade style games. One has to wonder if they simply are no longer viable as full retail releases. Sluggish sales of NBA Jam are the latest example of the struggles to succeed in the marketplace. (more…)...

One of the big selling points of NBA Jam for the 360 and PS3 was the inclusion of online play. Beyond just the typical head-to-head, EA Sports delivered on a variety of modes to play online. The potential for NBA Jam to be one of the most enjoyable online experiences available was evident but unfortunately that hasn't turned out to be the case. (more…)...

Typically events that take place away from the action of the sport are not reflected in player ratings. A few weeks ago Madden 11 dropped the stamina rating of Donovan McNabb after he was knocked for his conditioning by his coach. That was amusing and even made sense given his history and context of ratings adjustments due to performance. Ultimately it was related to on-the-field events so in that regard it was acceptable. 2K Sports though has taken it to another level and it is a questiona...

The comprehensive patch detailed yesterday is now available for the 360 and PS3 versions of NBA 2K11. The PC version is slated to receive it at a later date. As long as the consoles are connected online the prompt to download the patch will appear at start-up. The patch deals with issues such as freezing in My Player mode, attempts to improve shot stick timing and directional passing, adjusts home court advantage, allows for substitution graphics to be “buttoned through”, and ...

Having already detailed the doubling in sales that the NBA 2K series received with 2K11 and the drop-off that Madden 11 is now experiencing that leaves a handful of other titles and their sales to still discuss. It is largely disappointing news even when considering some of the following games didn't have huge expectations to begin with. (more…)...
