Despite the ongoing lockout 2K Sports hasn't really ramped up their marketing efforts - if anything its been more subdued than last year while certain new features and entire modes of NBA 2K12 still remain under wraps. 2K has always been deliberate in their distribution of information on upcoming titles but in this case not having a competitor seems to have led to them holding things even closer to their chest and for longer. A big step forward however as time ticks down will come with the r...

In NBA 2K11 both Kobe Bryant and LeBron James entered as 97 overall prompting discussion with each having their own factions of supporters but it was mostly harmless since they were tied atop the ratings. With NBA 2K12 though one has gone up while the other has dropped leading to some more contention between those who feel one should be above or at least at the same level as the other. LeBron James will begin NBA 2K12 as a 98 - the highest rated player in the game - while Kobe Bryant has ...

Talks yesterday between NBA owners and players ended with both sides expressing disappointment and a bleak outlook for the future with no further meetings planned. Union chief Billy Hunter set expectations for the players telling them not to expect a deal until half the season has been lost. At the very least NBA 2K12 is now facing a couple months of being on the market with last year's rosters and no infusion of this year's rookies.  (more…)...

2K Sports today unveiled a new mode for NBA 2K12 referred to as 'Training Camp'. The mode acts as a series of tutorials rather than being similar to the 'NBA Academy' introduced in the NBA Live series which was more intended as a multi-faceted practice and learning environment. In total there are nine camp "lessons" in 2K12 that include running through different shots, moves, passing execution, and defense. This will be a welcome addition to the series which has taken some flak for its co...

Though the big story has been the revelation that NBA 2K12 will not include incoming rookies 2K Sports has closed the week by releasing extensive details on the My Player career mode which may help to soothe over some of the frustration of that situation. Of course not having rookies means entering My Player alongside generated characters so that'll even have an impact here too - however there are several new additions that will attempt to make for a more compelling experience. My Play...
  • NBA 2K12 Will Not Include Rookies

Unlike the NFL Lockout, where EA Sports had rights to rookies for Madden NFL 12 regardless of whether there would be a season or not, the NBA lockout will cost its league licensed video game from introducing the incoming rookies. NBA 2K12 will not include any of the rookies drafted in June - as confirmed through a blog posting at Operation Sports from a long-time member who attended a PR event for the game yesterday. The plan would be to add the rookies through a roster update - but that ...

Recently promoted to COO, former EA Sports president Peter Moore talked to IndustryGamers about the company's NBA series. After attempting an overhaul and re-brand going from NBA Live to NBA Elite the game was canceled at the very last minute after harsh consumer response to the demo and glitch videos having gone viral. The series was then transferred to the Tiburon studio where it is taking a year off before returning in fall 2012. "It’ll take a while to get back, yeah. It’ll...
