  • NBA Lockout Heads to Courts – Potential of a Season Bleaker Than Ever

Today the NBPA announced they have rejected the NBA's final labor offer and have filed a notice of disclaimer. The Player's Association is disbanding, avoiding the decertification process which would have taken 45 days, and the players now become a trade organization. That allows for anti-trust action to be taken immediately as things will now move to the courts and be handled by lawyers with no further collective bargaining. The court process will be a lengthy one - many analysts have op...
  • 2K Sports Reverses Course on Planned NBA 2K11 Server Shutdown
    by
    Posted November 10th, 2011 at 5:15 pm 9 Comments »
Last week 2K Sports made the surprising announcement that the servers for NBA 2K11 would be taken offline in the middle of November. The company immediately took a great deal of PR heat for the decision. Timing wise the move couldn't have been worse (due to the league lockout and 2K12's admitted online problems) and there had been no precedent for ending online services only 13 months after release of a game. NBA 2K11 was immensely popular, it is among the highest selling games this calendar...

The latest patch for NBA 2K12, that arrived last week for the PS3, has gone live today for the Xbox 360. This particular update was pushed out to address some of the more pressing issues with gameplay and online - and impressions of its impact from the PS3 side have been mixed. Encouragingly it hasn't seemed to introduce any new issues to deal with at the very least. Most are finding online games are connecting quicker but not much improvement to online performance and stability otherw...
  • NBA 2K12 Receives First Gameplay Patch

A new patch for NBA 2K12 released today for the PS3 and is expected to arrive soon for the Xbox 360. Attempts to address some of the biggest gripes have been made with reduced success of steals and three-point percentages reduced specifically when challenged by a defender. It's not a huge patch in terms of number of fixes (and bypasses My Player issues) but if it works as intended it should greatly improve the gameplay experience. Of course the effectiveness of the patch will have to be m...

Two weeks ago 2K Sports made the downloadable content for NBA 2K12 official and today they have announced an additional 45 legends that will be included. These legends will only be available within the "Legends Showcase" - so they will not be transferable to regular Play Now, Association, or any other mode within the game. The 45 new legends will be in addition to over 160 others already found in 2K12 that can be used in "Legends Showcase".  (more…)...
  • 2K Sports Shutting Down NBA 2K11 Servers

An announcement of servers being shut down for past yearly sports titles is rarely newsworthy. Circumstances though this year makes the shutdown of services for NBA 2K11 especially relevant. 2K Sports has now announced that the servers will go down for good in mid-November. Why does it matter more in this case? First of all it represents an especially short period of time that the servers stayed live - only 13 months. For comparisons sake the company shut down 2K10 after 15 months (happen...
  • One Month Later and the NBA 2K12 Website Remains Unlaunched

The NBA season would have tipped-off this evening if not for the league lockout. The date also is significant in that it marks a full four weeks having passed since the release of NBA 2K12 and still the official website, expected one day one and touted as housing several features for the game, has yet to roll out. 2K Sports has not commented on the subject beyond stating they do not know when it will be ready. Features such as being able to track My Player progress, view online leaderboar...
  • 2K Sports Finally Addresses The Online Struggles of NBA 2K12

It's been covered well here since the release of NBA 2K12 - the online troubles that have been at the root of the ire consumers have directed towards 2K Sports regarding the title. General performance issues with connections and lag affect nearly everything online related but that has been compounded by the removal of popular modes and options (even lobbies) and a terribly disappointing Online Association offering. Today Kotaku posted an article on the subject that includes discussion wit...
