It's rare to have any game information leak prior to the planned marketing schedule for the annual sports games. That's especially true of 2K Sports who has always been very protective of their traditional cycle. NBA 2K16 releases in two months, and the company hasn't even put out a single screenshot or shown any gameplay footage yet, while revealing very little about the feature set and hinting any news would still be several weeks away. That makes what's going on with NBA 2K16 outside o...
  • Settling the debate with NBA 2K15: All-Time Lakers vs All-Time Bulls

The highly publicized back-and-forth between Shaquille O'Neal and Scottie Pippen over the last week, concerning which team of all-time greats would win between the Lakers and Bulls, can't go much further than trash talk (their preferred method) and well-reasoned lineup analysis and speculation. However with NBA 2K15 we can see an actual game play out with rosters containing all the legends, both current and past, that make up the storied franchises. With that in mind I ran a simulation ...
  • Discussing the role college teams will play in NBA 2K16

Last week it was discovered, through a leaked achievements list, that MyCareer Mode in NBA 2K16 will include some form of college implementation in the early stages of the player's career path. That news, combined with there being at least 11 schools that have been licensed by 2K Sports through the Collegiate Licensing Company for use in video games, makes it appear likely that some actual universities are going to appear in NBA 2K16. It would be the first time in years that any represe...
  • The winners and losers from the free agency period for NBA 2K16

There has been no shortage of drama this month since the free agency period opened for the NBA. Big decisions were made by impact players to change teams, one of those decisions was reversed at the last minute, prestige teams of the past came up empty on attempts to attract big names, and several trades were executed along the way. The changes have bolstered the quality of some teams, while others have seem themselves weakened in the process. Looking ahead to NBA 2K16, what five teams imp...
  • 2K Sports has the license for some colleges that may appear in NBA 2K16

Earlier this week we learned, among the other leaked features for NBA 2K16, that college ball will be playing some role in the new MyCareer story mode. Announcing where you'll play your college ball at and declaring for the NBA Draft are two of the big moments early on in the career of "Frequency Vibrations". Obviously the college aspect is not going to be a fully blown out College Hoops 2K experience. There aren't going to be real players or representations based on them, there aren't ...

It was an unprecedented leak of game-related information yesterday, that allowed many of NBA 2K16's major new features to be exposed over a month in advance of when 2K Sports likely would have revealed them publicly. The standouts from that bunch include MyLeague Online, team relocation in MyGM/MyLeague, and a college-element to the MyCareer story path. In the latest video produced for Hit The Pass, Rich and I discuss all the NBA 2K16 news, and how it affects anticipation of the upcoming gam...

An achievements list for NBA 2K16 surfaced today and, if accurate, reveals a ton of information about the upcoming game. To date 2K Sports hasn't revealed anything about the product besides Spike Lee's involvement, the soundtrack, and the inclusion of Summer League. This achievements list reveals some significant features that surely wouldn't have even been talked about for a month or two otherwise. Among the group of achievements is mention of "MyLeague Online". MyLeague was introduced i...

Though 2K Sports hasn't gone into much of what will actually make up the NBA 2K16 product, besides Spike Lee's involvement with writing and directing MyCareer mode and the soundtrack news that went out yesterday, one piece of game-related information was made public today. NBA 2K16 will include the Summer League. The NBA Summer League was last seen in NBA 2K11, where poor performance would lead to your MyPlayer heading to the D-League to begin their career rather than the NBA. Whether th...
