Though they are both coming to an end in their own ways - with the NBA Finals wrapping up and 2K Sports' MLB series all but officially canned - the NBA 2K12/MLB 2K12 Combo Pack for the Xbox 360 makes for a compelling package at the right price. A deal has now sprung up with the combo going for just $40 at Amazon. •NBA 2K12/MLB 2K12 Combo Pack It's unclear how long it'll remain active as this represents the first significant deal the product has received - the price otherwise has ...
  • EA Sports Not Currently Pursuing MLB

With the apparent end of the MLB 2K series the general assumption was EA Sports would take the opportunity of the license being freed up to strike a deal with the league and resurrect the MVP series. Even though a game for next year seemed unlikely - the 360 may be going without an MLB game for at least 2013 - it would have been ideal for EA to secure it and possibly then debut MVP on the next generation of systems. In an interview with ESPN however Andrew Wilson, the head of EA Sports, s...
  • MLB 2K12 Patch Details
    by
    Posted June 2nd, 2012 at 11:00 am 11 Comments »
In what may very well be the last action for the MLB 2K franchise as it comes to an end 2K Sports has released a patch for MLB 2K12 taking nearly three months to do so. MLB Today Season, the main new mode for the game, inexcusably has been busted all along and this patch doesn't appear to be promising a complete fix. Other prominent issues are going unaddressed as well. In general it's a much less extensive update than the company has provided in past years which may not come as much of a...
  • Online Home Run Derby Finally Coming to MLB 12: The Show – But Not for Everyone

Though it was never really pushed in their marketing efforts SCEA advertised an Online Home Run Derby mode for MLB 12: The Show yet it was missing at release and ever since. The company avoided responding to consumer and media inquiries on the subject. A recent patch however alluded to a "new mode" being added and that is in fact the Online Home Run Derby. Unfortunately it's not as simple as the advertised mode being made available to all. Instead the company has tied it into a promoti...
  • Examining the State of MLB Gaming

Few are bemoaning the apparent loss of the MLB 2K franchise but the prospects of where that leaves MLB gaming are only slightly more optimistic than they had been under the third party license that is now expiring. With the end of the console generation near, and companies more risk averse than ever, there are a number of variables to consider when thinking of what company - if any - will choose to make a licensed baseball game in the next year or two.  (more…)...
  • MLB 2K Series Left Out of Take Two Lineup Listing – Could Signal Cancellation

Take Two reported their Q4 Fiscal 2012 financials today and with that came their upcoming slate of scheduled products for the entire 2013 fiscal year. The only sports title listed is NBA 2K13 signaling what could be the end of the MLB 2K franchise. In fact this was the exact way that both the NHL 2K and College Hoops 2K franchises were discovered to have been cancelled so the precedent is there. (Update) Confirmation has come down the series is indeed dead. (more…)...
  • Another MLB 12: The Show Patch Arrives – Addresses Problems from Previous Updates and Prepares for Mode Addition

Consumers have encountered a number of troubles produced by patches for MLB 12: The Show - the most major of which have been Franchise and Road to the Show freezes and broken cross platform play - and an update that has been made available today for the PS3 version is intended to address some of those. While it won't get back all the time that has been lost and frustration generated in the process it will hopefully help to stabilize the experience for the rest of the year as this seems li...
