I'll be contributing articles regularly going forward to Sporting News and the first three went up this week. The idea is to write there for a more general audience - many of the themes and practically all of the pertinent information having already being covered here but presented in a different manner - and tie it in more with relevancy in the sports world. One article is on Super Mega Baseball which beat the odds not just in becoming a fantastic game but in even getting off the grou...
  • Trying Share Play with Super Mega Baseball

The introduction of Share Play on PlayStation 4 made it possible for games without any online component to be played through hosted connections. Assuming the individual's speeds (primarily the upload) is fast enough Share Play offers the ability to not just play with or against a friend but also pass them the controller to play on their own. In some cases the result has even proven to be better than the actual online service for the game. Super Mega Baseball does not offer online play and...
  • Super Mega Baseball is the Late Season Sports Gaming Hero

Super Mega Baseball enters the marketplace without the support of a major publisher and with it the normal marketing push and fanfare those games get. It lacks the licensing, rich feature sets, and revenue-driven modes that have become the norm. The sports genre's alternatives, games that acted as bridges to the highly-detailed and increasingly complicated sim offerings, have gone practically extinct in recent years. Despite all that Super Mega has every right to be considered a legitimat...

The first release of info related to MLB 15: The Show included a handful of features and improvements to expect from the game that will release on March 31. There wasn't anything monumental announced but instead a variety of things that will appeal to different types of players. Those include the first opportunity to use save migration from MLB 14, overhauled Diamond Dynasty, a radio show, the introduction of licensed equipment, the addition of legends, enhanced graphics, more defined player...

The hope going into the release of Super Mega Baseball, due out tomorrow on PS4 and PS3, was that it could at least partially fill the huge void in sports gaming left by the practical extinction of the non-traditional licensed sim or "arcade" games of old. Thankfully Super Mega has come through in that regard. The game is very fun and really well designed. It may have the look of an "arcade" game but it's grounded enough in realism that it should appeal to a wide audience. I'll be posting...

A new gameplay teaser trailer just arrived for Super Mega Baseball which is set to release next Tuesday for PS4 and PS3. This is a game that hopes to fill a void in the sports gaming genre, which over the past five years has been slimmed down to almost entirely league licensed simulation offerings. Scott Drader, co-founder of Metalhead Software the studio behind Super Mega, was kind enough to answer some questions that I sent his way. (more…)...

The cover athlete for MLB 15: The Show was announced on Friday and that was followed by a teaser trailer and mentions of enhanced player emotion and licensed equipment on Saturday. Retailer listings have now revealed even more in the way of features and improvements to expect from the game - expanding on those first few things and offering a few new ones - though certainly far more is being held back to reveal at a later date. (more…)...

Last night SCEA announced Yasiel Puig as the cover athlete for MLB 15: The Show. Today during the PlayStation Experience keynote the company made an appearance to debut the first teaser trailer for the game and a few vague details. MLB 15 will include enhancements to personality and emotion (Puig obviously meant to represent that) and licensed equipment. The release is set for March 31, 2015 so they're sticking with a pushed back date that coincides more with the start of the regular seas...
