While I've previously gone through my initial impressions of MLB 2K8 and MLB 08: The Show, I figured it would be interesting to match the two games up in different categories and determine which came out on top. Of course those with only a 360 don't have a choice in the matter, but it's important to know what is being done well and what isn't both on their own individual terms as well as competitively for the future of these franchises. The two games headed into release taking completely ...

As I've focused on pointing out on several occasions, online play is something that is practically ignored by reviewers and the online details you get prerelease are those that have been regurgitated from fact sheets. Occasionally the topic will come up in interviews but it ends up being more of the same. It isn't until the community actually plays online that the true sense of what is offered is known. Now that the two baseball titles have been out for a few days we can look at the onlin...

Just wanted to drop a few thoughts on the handful of games I got played this evening. Thanks to everyone who participated and hopefully we'll be able to organize the nights on a weekly basis like has been done with the Online Team Play for NBA Live 08. Anyone who sent me an invite that I wasn't able to get to I look forward to playing in the near future. Below are details on how two of the games I played turned out. The night started off with a game of MLB 2K8 against Reeso2991. It was play...

The Cool Base alternate jerseys and three minor league stadiums (that apparently couldn't fit on the disc) that 2K had promised would come at release are now available in the Xbox 360 Marketplace. Durham Bulls Athletic Park, Hadlock Field, and Legends Field are included. As previously stated these are free to download. In an interesting twist the content is currently only available to Gold members. Even though it was intended to be included with the game and is meant to go to everyone it...

The first Online Baseball Night will take place tomorrow (Thursday) with the concentrated upon time being 3pt/6et through 7pt/10et. This is a time for the community to gather and get in some good games against quality opponents for the 360 MLB 2K8 or the PS3 MLB 08: The Show. You can read up more on what the night will entail here. After trying out The Show online tonight I've found there to have been significant improvements made and I've been seeing reports of that from others as well. Th...

After spending a lot of time playing MLB 2K8 yesterday I was able to compile my early thoughts on the game. Going in I had somewhat low expectations and that is probably why I feel at least somewhat pleasantly surprised. There are certainly a laundry list of issues but I've still found it to be fun to play as well as going through the process of learning and getting comfortable with the new mechanics. However I think over time that feeling is going to wear off as the problems become more fru...

This full nine inning game from MLB 2K8 features the Texas Rangers @ Tampa Bay Rays. It was the first game played after running through the pitching practice (which if you missed it can be found here). I've definitely started to get the hang of the pitching but at times lose concentration and it costs me. Right now I'm somewhat pleasantly surprised by 2K8. There are some issues and oddities which I'll detail in my impressions but overall I've found it to be quite fun and I like most of th...

So MLB 2K8 has finally arrived and one of the most critical aspects of the game this year is the new right analog pitching mechanic. Given that there has been no demo and it can't really be demonstrated through videos that has left a lot of people wondering how well it is going to work and how quickly they'll get comfortable with it. This video may do the best job of displaying that. At any point during a game you can pause and go to pitching practice. That is what I've done here. While...
