  • MLB 2K9 X-Play Preview

Yesterday on X-Play there was a hands-on discussion of MLB 2K8 with a couple of the producers. While the interview doesn't offer any information on the game that wasn't previously known it is probably still worth a watch if you are interested in 2K9. I was a little put off by the enthusiasm from Adam Sessler though given not only how X-Play rated MLB 2K8 over MLB 08 The Show last year but also how they had a similar interview with then producer Ben Brinkman that avoided discussion of any ...

Operation Sports is the first site to post true impressions of MLB 2K9. Previous hands-on previews have pretty much just summed up the features while making sure to avoid discussing their opinions on the game. However Steve over at OS has laid out some of the things he likes and some of the things that he has found bothersome in the game. Basically it sounds as though that as expected the game is improved overall. The commentary, presentational elements and flow to the game due to the rea...
  • MLB 2K9 Going Overboard with Stadium Advertising

I've never had any issues with in-game ads being displayed. This is because they have always been a natural fit, actually helping to increase the immersion factor. Seeing advertisements in places you would see them in real life they've makes sense. However with MLB 2K9 they may have finally crossed the line with how they are being inserted. Thanks to Operation Sports who has provided screenshots of every stadium we can now see how certain ads (specifically Pepsi) are dominant. While it's po...

With the disaster that MLB Front Office Manager turned out to be we can now focus on a game that looks to have some potential. 2K Sports has finally lifted the restriction on media sites for posting videos of MLB 2K9. Some have already begun to provide them with more sure to arrive later today. Below are links to the first posted gameplay videos and I'll be adding more as they show up. While it isn't yet enough to start making full evaluations on the game you can get a sense for the prese...

  • Reviewers Get One Right and One Wrong

The first two sports titles of the year have been released in MLB Front Office Manager and 3 on 3 NHL Arcade. Both have been hit hard by reviewers despite their lower prices. In the case of MLB FOM I had some positive hopes for it and initially liked it but a couple major issues have negated all that and with a patch unlikely there isn't much hope of getting much enjoyment out of the game. On the other hand 3 on 3 NHL Arcade delivers exactly what it promised as a light-hearted fun offering b...
  • MLB 09 The Show: Attention to Details

    Posted February 11th, 2009 at 2:18 pm 121 Comments »
The latest Playstation Blog posting covers the attention to detail that makes up the experience in MLB 09 The Show. There is little doubt that this has been a strength for the series the past couple years but they've taken it to another level for 09. The improved lighting, jumbotrons, and crowds are especially impressive. You can check out the full blog posting here which includes a video showing off what is being discussed. For this year’s version we wanted to make the game as accur...
  • MLB 2K9 Top Player Ratings
    by
    Posted February 10th, 2009 at 8:28 pm 108 Comments »
Gamespot has revealed the top 10 rated players at each position in MLB 2K9.  As always ratings are somewhat subjective and will surely be argued about. It appears that in general the ratings are being kept on the low side. Although Albert Pujols is 100 no other position players are above a 94. Three pitchers come in at 95/96. Most players in the game though seem to fall in the 77-84 range. Most importantly we'll finally be getting some gameplay videos on Friday. You can check out the l...
