After spending more time in RTTS as a shortstop I decided to start over as a relief pitcher. As enjoyable as the mode can be as a position player it is much more fun as a pitcher. There is less loading to deal with since it isn't cutting into the game for single defensive plays which are boring anyway, and there is less frustrating time wasted while a teammate hits and you're stuck on base. As a relief pitcher I can breeze through each game in probably 3-4 minutes as opposed to 6-7 and it...
  • 1UP justifies SCEA’s pulled prerelease support with MLB 08 review

Back in early January I wrote an article regarding how a few companies had decided to no longer provide 1UP/EGM with prerelease copies of their games. The companies in question felt that they were not being treated fairly and that they could go to other outlets instead. This wasn't a case of trying to buy off reviews. Instead it was simply wanting their titles to be treated with the proper level of respect. There is obviously no way to stop them from reviewing the game however they weren't g...

Today Sony released firmware update v2.17 for the PS3. This update (which is applied when signing into PSN) had one intention...to improve the operating stability of some online PS3 titles. My first thought was how it seemed likely that MLB 08: The Show would be a (if not the main) beneficiary of this update. So I decided to try some games to see if there was noticeable improvement. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have helped as the lag is still hit or miss (sometimes within each game). ...

So after having attention diverted towards playing The Show online and playing the rival baseball title, Padre was able to get back into his Road to the Show. Going through the rest of Spring Training there was some improvement made at the plate. He finished ST having batted .255 with 9 RBI and 4 steals. Not exactly impressive numbers but at least they had come up from the sub .200 he was sitting at earlier in ST. (more…)...

While I've previously gone through my initial impressions of MLB 2K8 and MLB 08: The Show, I figured it would be interesting to match the two games up in different categories and determine which came out on top. Of course those with only a 360 don't have a choice in the matter, but it's important to know what is being done well and what isn't both on their own individual terms as well as competitively for the future of these franchises. The two games headed into release taking completely ...

As I've focused on pointing out on several occasions, online play is something that is practically ignored by reviewers and the online details you get prerelease are those that have been regurgitated from fact sheets. Occasionally the topic will come up in interviews but it ends up being more of the same. It isn't until the community actually plays online that the true sense of what is offered is known. Now that the two baseball titles have been out for a few days we can look at the onlin...
