MLB 2K8 patch for 360 out now
The MLB 2K8 patch that is intended to improve the framerate and fix the Padres lineup glitch in franchise mode has gone live for the 360. It is unknown when the Padres fix for the PS3 will be coming. Although the turnaround of getting the patch out a month after release is relatively quick, and actually suggests the patch was being worked on prior to release of the game, the situation was still terribly mishandled.
I was able to get some time in with the game post patch and once I play some...
2K Sports struggling with MLB 2K8 community relations
I've held off writing about the current patch situation for MLB 2K8 throughout the week. My general feeling was that just waiting on the patch isn't really news. But developments over the past few days warrant some discussion.
March 13th was the day the news came out (via Game Informer) that a patch was in the works to address the poor framerate and Padres franchise roster glitch for the 360 along with a PS3 patch that would only fix Padres issue. Amusingly 11 days later 2K Sports sent out ...
Analyzing the MLB game sales
After a couple weeks of sales it seems like a good opportunity to look at how the two MLB games have fared and what it could mean for the future. With the EA purchase of Take Two still looming largely ahead that could certainly change perceptions going into next year. However we'll just look at it from the current standpoint of 2K vs SCEA.

No framerate fix for PS3 MLB 2K8
Earlier today 2K Sports sent out a press release regarding the patches that are being worked on for MLB 2K8. Amusingly it was the very same statement word for word that was given to Game Informer and discussed here 10 days ago. I wonder if that means the "shortly" it will supposedly be available relates to now or when it was originally communicated. As I eluded to when breaking down the statement, 2K was ignoring the PS3 consumers and not addressing the framerate issues while doing so on th...
Patches in the works for MLB 2K8
Game Informer has gotten official word from Take Two/2K Sports regarding several patches that are currently being worked on for the 360 and PS3 versions of MLB 2K8. Specifically mentioned are the framerate and the Padres' roster glitch. Lets look at a few parts of the statement that was made with my translation following.
It has come our attention that there are a few technical issues within Major League Baseball 2K8 that may effect gameplay enjoyment for some players.

MLB games online play update
Today Sony released firmware update v2.17 for the PS3. This update (which is applied when signing into PSN) had one intention...to improve the operating stability of some online PS3 titles. My first thought was how it seemed likely that MLB 08: The Show would be a (if not the main) beneficiary of this update.
So I decided to try some games to see if there was noticeable improvement. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have helped as the lag is still hit or miss (sometimes within each game). ...

MLB 2K8 pitching poll
One of the biggest topics in regards to MLB 2K8 has been the revamping of the pitching mechanics. Total Control Pitching rests solely on the right analog gestures and the timing of release.
I think 2K had the best of intentions with this and appreciate the effort that was put into it. However the motions have to be so precise and even being off just slightly can be devastating. The whole concept of the "Meatball" is flawed and ultimately that is the cause of most concern. A pitch that is ...
