    Variety is reporting that Simon Cowell will leave American Idol after this season to bring The X Factor to the U.S. Cowell will serve as an executive producer and judge on the show.     Wolverine fans hoping for a second 'Wolverine' film can rejoice. According to Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, he'll be traveling to Japan and shooting will begin in the next year.   • Top DVD Sales and Rentals for Week Ending January 3, 2010

    In it's first week of release Paranormal Activity was the top selling DVD last week. The horror/suspense film did very well in theaters, and scored an 82% 'fresh rating' on Rottentomatoes.com. By becoming the top selling DVD, Paranormal Activity dethroned The Hangover from the top slot, which it held for two weeks.     Variety is reporting that Zombieland writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, will pen the X-Men spinoff, Deadpool. Last month it had been rumored the studio was in talks with the duo for the script, but nothing was official until today. Reese and Wernick, who wrote "Zombieland," will stay true to the mythology of "Deadpool" given that Reynolds is a huge fan and protector of the property.     Last month we got to see a new trailer from Walt Disney Pictures' Alice in Wonderland. Today, the studio has released a photo of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter as the first 'official' still .     The new year doesn't really offer us any great movies in it's first week. Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is probably the best movie of the releases this week. The animated movie scored an 85% "Fresh Rating" on Rottentomatoes.com. We will surely see this movie at the top of the sales list.     Another season of 24 is upon us, and Fox has posted a trailer for your viewing pleasure. 24's eighth season will premiere with a special two-night, four-hour premiere that kicks off on Sunday, January 17 at 9 PM ET and continues on Monday, January 18 at 9 PM ET on Fox.     The official website for Universal Pictures' The Wolfman has launched. The site has a slew of features that include videos, a synopsis of the film, and photos. There is also a features sections on "Lycanthropy", which gives a history on werewolves. Directed by Joe Johnston, the film stars Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving and Art Malik. The Wolfman opens in theaters February 12. (more…)...
