  • Varied Levels of Success at the Box Office for New Openers

It was a busy weekend at the box office where old action stars reigned supreme, a reliable female star opened a film to modest numbers, and a potential cult-classic couldn't gain any traction. Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables, which united numerous action stars of the past, resonated with a large segment of males looking for a straight big action offering. Despite primarily disappointing reviews (citing great action but poor acting and story) the crowd supported it leading it to the top...

The Line Drive is a weekly collection of news, links, and updates that didn’t necessarily warrant their own postings. Found this to be an interesting article from the USA Today going over 11 things you may not know about Madden 11. Madden 11 is selling very well on the iPhone and iPad. Added a few more screenshots in the gallery for NBA 2K11 and NBA Elite 11. A while back it was found that the Gamestop preorder for EA Sports MMA would be a code to download Hers...
  • NCAA Football 11 Sales Rise Over Last Year

NCAA Football 10, along with MLB 2K9, were only two franchises last year that saw sales drops. This year though we've seen that become a trend with stunningly significant skids hitting UFC Undisputed 2010 and Tiger Woods 11. The next in line that could have been threatened was NCAA Football 11. Positive word-of-mouth from both gamers and reviewers though would seem to be the primary factor in NCAA Football 11 not only holding off a drop-off but actually seeing overall sales growth. For the ...
  • Madden 11 Monumental Comeback in OTP

Last night I got together with Fred and CoreySA to run through a couple games of Online Team Play in Madden 11. The memorable game of the evening included a comeback from down 28-6 late in the 3rd quarter. Though we felt like we were playing decently on both sides of the ball the opposition kept converting third downs. It took us a while but eventually we decided to dial up the pressure and what resulted was a 36-11 swing which included three INT-TDs (all by defensive lineman) and a 42-39 vict...
  • Review: Scott Pilgrim vs The World

After its panel at Comic-Con and subsequent early screenings Scott Pilgrim vs The World is riding a wave of almost overwhelming positive buzz. Based on the graphic novel the story follows a guy who has "defeat" the seven evil exes of the girl he likes in order to date her. While the film may not quite reach the "all-time classic" status that some pumped it up to be it is a very entertaining ride and like nothing that has been seen before on the big screen. It will definitely carry the younger ...

2K Sports has released a brand new trailer for NBA 2K11. There have been two previously, the first included primarily 2K10 footage and the second was a brief teaser for the inclusion of Michael Jordan. This is an extended look at the game, presumably all 2K11 footage, while mixing in Jordan and some other historic teams/players. I especially loved seeing the Sonics! As always trailers such as these are all about flash and not necessarily substance so they can be fun to watch but probably no...

EA Sports has announced that the demo for NHL 11 will be available next Tuesday (August 17th). It is expected to arrive at the normal times for each console with the 360 getting it at about 2am and the PS3 sometime in the afternoon/early evening. The demo will include two different modes similar to what was provided last year. This time in place of a trial run in Be a Pro mode there will be an opportunity to try out the Ultimate Team Hockey League. That will be included in addition to a chance...
