Today marked the release of EA Sports MMA, a game which has been in development for over two years and was officially announced at E3 2009. The first handful of reviews that have rolled in have ranged from a low of six to a high of nine with the great majority being quite positive. The career mode and online features are being praised while the controls are much simpler than what has been presented in the UFC product (for better or worse). I'll be working up impressions over the next few da...

Week six of the NFL season is in the books and while a few teams in the AFC have started to separate from the pack the NFC is still tightly bunched up. Much of the news coming out of the weekend though has to do with the head injuries inflicted and now penalties that will be coming for dangerous hits. Names that stood out in week six include Deion Branch who just fits so well in the Pats system, Russell Okung making Julius Peppers completely irrelevant, Roy Williams who now has a TD in thre...

THQ has reached an agreement to extend the license to produce official video games for the UFC through 2018. The news comes on the same day that a competitor in EA Sports MMA releases. Surely not a coincidence. There had been some speculation that UFC might let the current deal expire and explore other options including EA. There were rumblings of dissatisfaction from Dana White based on how THQ handled the last edition of the game and is disappointing sales performance. This year UFC 20...
  • The Surprise Onside Kick Debate

Ever since a surprise onside kick was used in the Super Bowl and its success cited as a big reason why the Saints were able to beat the Colts its absence in Madden has been notable. This has come up once again as there have been three attempts at surprise onside kicks in the last two weeks of NFL games. There seems to be an argument against the implementation of surprise onside kicks in Madden and it sounds an awful lot like what was said about the Wildcat before it was finally added. There...

Today NBC announced they have given back nine orders to The Event, Outsourced, and Law & Order: Los Angeles. Chase and Undercovers are rumored to be getting similar pick-ups as well. None of NBC's new shows this season are performing particularly well. Chase and Undercovers are at risk of cancellation so this news comes as somewhat of a surprise. The other three are doing well enough by the network's standards but they were unable to produce the breakout hit that they were looking for. ...
