EA Sports has announced that a code, found on specially branded bags of Doritos, will unlock a 3D mode in Madden 11. ESPN has further details on the news which includes noting that any pair of red and blue 3D glasses will work. A 3D television set or special glasses will not be required. The Doritos bags will be arriving in stores this week. Everything on screen will be 3D and given that they've gone the cheap glasses route the final result certainly won't be anything spectacular or that ad...

The Line Drive is a weekly collection of news, links, and updates that didn’t necessarily warrant their own postings. Still no official word on upcoming patches for NBA 2K11 or FIFA 11. The fourth patch for Madden 11 could arrive as early as this week, if not then next week. Some response to issues being reported in EA Sports MMA and that they are being worked on. The game has not seen much discussion centering on exploits or major issues which is a very good sign. ...

The first Friday Night Fights with EA Sports MMA turned out to be a big success. The Fight Cards feature is so much fun when a group of people get together as was the case last night. We ended up going for two and a half hours (I believe five total cards) and it was really enjoyable even in just watching the other fights. It turned out that there was overflow and not everyone could be involved on each card. To my surprise the Fight Card rooms allow for 10 people to be in but limit the card ...

Good news for fans of Battlestar Galactica as a second spin-off series is in the works. The first, Caprica, is currently in the second half of its first season on SyFy but low ratings have put it at risk of being canceled. Caprica is a character drama and focuses on the time on the planet as the Cylons are being created (acting as a prequel to BSG). This new series, which will be known as Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, will go back more to the original series' combat roots. Just ...

EA Sports MMA has some of the best online features of any sports game to date and has excellent online performance to go along with that. However the initial online base of players is notably lacking so the outlook going forward, as to whether there will be enough players to support the various experiences fully, becomes a bit of a concern. (more…)...

  • EA Sports MMA Fight Card #1

The Fight Cards feature in EA Sports MMA is one of the most impressive online features in any sports game to date. Allowing for up to 10 people to take part through five fights (one at each weight class) the card progresses with all the users involved spectating as it goes from one fight to the next. Between myself and Jerkfacefave we are looking at holding a Fight Card (possibly multiple if time allows) on Friday nights going forward for as long as the demand is there. The idea is to then ...

New Line has officially announced The Hobbit, an adaptation of the novel from J.R.R. Tolkien, which will be split into two movies. Getting the project off the ground has taken quite a while as it has faced several speed bumps along the way. Peter Jackson is set to direct. Martin Freeman will star as Bilbo Baggins. That casting had been rumored for months as he stood out as a perfect fit. Richard Armitage takes on the role of Thorin Oakenshield, Aidan Turner will play Kili and Rob Kazinsky a...
