Kinect for Xbox 360 arrives on Thursday and today the system dashboard updated in preparation for the launch. Kinect is the camera-based peripheral that provides controller free gaming using only the gestures and movements of the body. Beyond gaming it also allows for movement through the dashboard (think Minority Report) and video chatting. Right now it appears that sales are going to be huge...at least initially through the holidays. Kinect is being marketed to a casual crowd with a bunch...

As expected horror films topped the charts for Halloween weekend as Saw 3D opened #1 and Paranormal Activity 2 posted a solid take coming off its #1 opening last weekend. Saw 3D made $22.5 million which is up $8 million over what Saw VI took in last year. $9 million on Friday was followed by heavy drop-offs on Saturday and Sunday which is typical of a not just a horror movie but even more so a sequel. The movie will have no legs at all but considering the $20 million budget it is already pr...

An increasingly significant driver of subscriptions to Netflix comes due to the company's streaming of a large library of movie and television content. A study recently came out and said as much as 20% of the traffic on the internet at any given time is taken up by Netflix streaming. That is pretty astonishing to consider and quite surprising. Redbox, with their over 25K kiosks strategically placed all across the US, have been a huge success as well and continues to show growth. The two com...

Earlier this week it was revealed that a 3D mode in Madden 11 could be unlocked through a process involving partner Doritos. After completing all the steps necessary to activate the mode and try it out I can easily say that no one else need go through the trouble. It is best to just pretend this 3D mode never existed to begin with.  (more…)...

I went into Comic-Con, like many others, having never heard of Skyline. The presentation and showing of some scenes though captured everyone's attention, especially given that it was made on a low independent budget. The special effects looked as though they were right out of a big budget sci-fi tentpole film. It turns out that the Strause brothers who directed also financed and own their own special effects studio. To give some perspective on how slim the budget was they even chose to film mu...

Last week the 'Friday Night Fights' kicked off and turned out to be a big success. Fight Cards in EA Sports MMA were ran for 2 1/2 hours with five total being completed. You can check out the results here. It was really a lot of fun not just in competing but in getting to watch all the other fights live. Same procedure tonight. I will set up a Fight Card on the 360 at 10ET/7PT. If you'd like to be involved join into the room at that time. The room holds 10 people but there are only four fig...
