Though there will be no roster update for Madden 11 this week due to the holiday it is worth tracking player performance for the next one to come. That update will include developments from NFL week 11 and week 12. Standouts from week 11 include Steve Johnson who has become a go-to receiver for the Bills. He has nine TDs with three of them in the comeback win over the Bengals. Dez Bryant has six straight games with a TD, Sam Bradford has eight TDs to just one INT in the last five games, ...

A trailer teasing the reveal of new game announcements that will be made at the 2010 Video Game Awards show includes a brief glance of an NFL football game. That hints at an NFL licensed product being unveiled at the show which takes place on the evening of Saturday December 11th. With the recent rumor leaking that EA Sports is planning to revive NFL Blitz that would likely be the best bet as to what is coming but it isn't a certainty. The video flashes by so quickly that it is just a few f...
  • NBA Jam Initial Impressions

NBA Jam does many things well but still faces quite a bit of scrutiny. Arguably the biggest question centers on value given that EA Sports eroded the brand by advertising it as being "free" with NBA Elite 11. Value is always a subjective thing but I don't see that being the problem with the game. Various gameplay frustrations and some issues with online play though have soured me on NBA Jam already which doesn't bode well going forward. (more…)...
  • Harry Potter Sets Franchise High Opening

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 opened to $125 million for the weekend making it easily the biggest start for any film in the franchise to date. It made nearly half of that total on Friday (which included the midnight shows) though and that evidences just how front-loaded it was and that may be a sign it won't go on to be the highest grossing total when all is said and done. The other new opener was The Next Three Days which finished flat in fifth place. Despite it being one of...

The Line Drive is a weekly collection of news, links, and updates that didn’t necessarily warrant their own postings. EA Sports is bringing a new golf game to Facebook that will include some real-time gameplay. EA Sports PGA Tour Golf Challenge is also notable for lacking the name Tiger Woods. ESPN has a look at Fight Night Champion which includes how the story begins in prison and the decision to make it an M rated game. A second survey for the UFC Undisputed series...
  • IGN Calls NBA Elite Cancellation Courageous

Typically I don't bother with articles written about developments in the sports gaming world from the mainstream media sites, however this instance just couldn't be ignored in its audacity. It appears IGN is trying to assist EA Sports in the image rebuilding process of their NBA franchise. It reads like a PR piece prompted by EA and ends up doing readers a disservice. (more…)...
  • Fox Announces Mid-Season Schedule

Fox has revealed their mid-season lineup of programming which starts being instituted in mid-January. The return of American Idol and the premiere of The Chicago Code headline the new shows coming in. Fringe will move to Friday nights which is not a good sign for its hopes of being renewed. Hopefully the fan base will follow it there, plus it has always been one of the strongest shows in DVR numbers so the move may not hurt the ratings too much. Still it is unfortunate that the prospects fo...
  • EA Sports May Be Working On NFL Blitz

It was only a few days ago that EA Sports released their first version of NBA Jam and now comes a rumor that the company may be resurrecting the NFL Blitz franchise. Giant Bomb has posted up their belief that a game is in the works at Tiburon with a release coming likely in 2012. The belief is that EA purchased rights to multiple franchises and NBA Jam was just the only one made public initially. This is somewhat interesting because it remains unclear from where the rights to NBA Jam were a...
