The disappointing but anticipated news came down from FX today that the network will not be renewing Terriers for a second season. The low rated show had a passionate following from viewers and critics but was never able to gain traction amongst the masses. Terriers just completed its 13 episode run first season last week. Terriers was by far my favorite new show of the year. It was marred however by confusing marketing, a questionable name, and having a difficult theme to communicate. Thou...
  • Tangled Captures Top Spot from Harry Potter

The weekend that follows the Thanksgiving holiday stretch is typically one of the weakest of the year in terms of new releases and also holdover strength. That once again held true as only a single film, The Warrior's Way, opened in wide release. Meanwhile after having started #2 Tangled captured #1 as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 slid by it. So in its second weekend Tangled captures the crown after having been the runner-up its opening weekend, which is still a relatively r...

Throughout the month there will be a number of articles that take a look back over the biggest developments in sports gaming this year along with the annual top 10 games countdown. Overall 2010 finished with only a couple great standout games but a wide variety of decent games that provided value or innovation in their own ways. I have narrowed each category for a "Community Choice Awards" down to three games based on how they delivered and the perception in the community since their releas...

The Line Drive is a weekly collection of news, links, and updates that didn’t necessarily warrant their own postings. It appears the MLB games will be releasing on Tuesday March 8th with MLB 2K11 being the first to announce the date. Typically the MLB games release on the first Tuesday in March so it is interesting that they have shifted back a week. EA thinks skateboarding has "run its course" as a top video game. I'd say the yearly release schedules have killed it more tha...
  • Pre-Order Deals for Fight Night Champion

One of the complaints surrounding Fight Night Round 4 was the tumultuous pre-release experience due to various pre-order deals and demo release dates. Tying in the demo with pre-orders turned out to be a massive mistake that stunted momentum and created confusion. Essentially there were three different demo dates dependent on whether it was pre-ordered at Gamestop and which system was in question. Thankfully it doesn't appear that EA Sports will be taking a similar route with Fight Night Champ...

The first trailer for The Beaver has arrived. The film is directed by and co-stars Jodie Foster alongside Mel Gibson and was originally planned to release this winter in order to qualify for awards season. The image problem being faced by Gibson however forced Summit to move it to next year and they have since settled on a spring time frame for release. The story centers on a man with emotional problems who begins using a beaver hand puppet as his only means of communication. Two-time Academy...
  • MLB 2K May Just Be Playing Out The String

Hope of a future for the MLB 2K series has always been bleak. Take Two/2K Sports has taken a bath with the third party MLB license they signed in 2005. Just in 2010 alone they estimated a loss of $30-40 million due to the license. There was a reason why EA Sports passed on the opportunity to sign the deal leaving 2K Sports to snag it...it didn't make any financial sense. However yesterday may have been the biggest sign yet that MLB 2K is a thorn in the side of Take Two that they can't wait ...

With more casting being completed for the Spider-Man reboot more of the story is coming to light. With the main villain already being known (The Lizard as played by Rhys Ifans) the Hollywood Reporter has news on a second as well as additional casting. Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire) is set to play Van Atter. In the comics the character was known as Nels Van Adder, a research assistant that volunteered for testing of a serum administered by Norman Osborn (who becomes the Green Goblin) that...
