IGN has posted the first news relating to Superstar mode in Madden NFL 12. Players will start with a 60 overall rating and have to work up from that using games and practices to earn points and distribute to ratings categories at the user's discretion. Tendencies and "player roles" have also been added to provide another level of customization to how an individual plays on the field. Essentially it sounds just like the typical career mode without anything revolutionary being introduced bu...

Thanks to a screen grab of a loading screen in NCAA Football 12 posted over at The Gaming Tailgate we now know the first few new features for Online Dynasty. The web integration for the mode, which last year introduced the ability to recruit and change depth charts, will now allow for commissioners to advance weeks. Users will also be able to call games against the CPU with 'Super Sim' providing a new element of strategy for those who would rather manage than play. As a commissioner firin...

In the explanation from EA Sports regarding the release date delay/shift beginning with Madden 12 (and going forward for the series) the company claimed the change was being made primarily to capitalize on fan excitement by hitting stores closer to the regular season kick-off. The change means moving away from the traditional second Tuesday in August date to the last Tuesday in August. This strategy was seen as being successful with Tiger Woods 12 after sales numbers improved attributing som...
  • Gus Johnson Moves to Fox; Remains Viable Announcer for Madden Series

Last week it was reported that Gus Johnson was leaving his position at CBS where he had entrenched himself as an immensely popular announcer for college basketball, NFL, and  MMA events (though much less popular there). That brought into question whether he could retain enough relevance to remain as the play-by-play announcer in the Madden NFL series. He has now signed on with Fox as the network's top college football announcer (Pac-12, Big-12, Conference USA) and he will also call NFL ga...
  • Fox Cancels Half Its Scripted Programs

Fox has canceled five of its scripted series and though there are no big surprises it was not anticipated that all five would get the ax. The Christian Slater comedy Breaking In is gone despite decent ratings having largely benefited from having American Idol as a lead-in. The other four all had poor ratings and though several were highly regarded the network couldn't hang on to them at their current ratings levels. Dramas The Chicago Code, Lie to Me, and Human Target along with the comedy T...

EA Sports has released another new screenshot for NCAA Football 12 and this one features Oklahoma vs FSU. The two teams face off in Tallahassee on September 17th. Though it would seem the last screen was intended to hint at the inclusion of neutral site games in Franchise mode this one primarily just shows off the wear being done to the uniforms over the course of the game. Click here to see the image full size and check out the entire NCAA Football 12 gallery for more....

EA Sports has released another screenshot for Madden NFL 12 and this one struck me as especially impressive. A ton of screens are already out for the game but the latest, featuring Vernon Davis and the San Francisco 49ers against the San Diego Chargers, includes several of the already announced features for this year. The improved player models and faces, lighting enhancements, new to the series throwback uniforms and grass stains, 3D grass (with some being kicked up), and new tackling syste...

Dreamworks has released the full theatrical trailer for Real Steel which has been picking up steam as a potential blockbuster. The studio is so encouraged by what they've seen that work has already begun on a sequel. This trailer is great so it's clear why they are so high on the project which has widespread appeal. In Real Steel the year is 2020 with boxing between humans having been outlawed and replaced by combat between giant robots. Hugh Jackman stars as a former boxer turned trainer...
