There's a little bit of everything releasing on DVD/Blu-ray this week - headlined by the worldwide smash hit (though less so in the US) with the fourth entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. There is also the raunchy R rated comedy Bad Teacher, Kevin Smith's uniquely distributed horror film Red State, and the kids/teen focused Monte Carlo. The animated Batman: Year One (which is getting some really good reviews) debuts along with classics The Goonies and The Crow getting their firs...
  • Madden NFL 12 Tops September in Sales

    Posted October 15th, 2011 at 2:15 pm 50 Comments »
The release date shift for Madden NFL 12 meant the entirety of its first four weeks of sales landed in September as opposed to the first three weeks coming in August as has been the case in year's past. That allowed Madden 12 to top the sales charts edging out Gears of War 3 which sold over 2 million copies - though beyond that the specific numbers have not been provided. Based on the 10% rise in its first week announced by EA Sports - if that number carried through the month (and evidenc...

  • FIFA 12 Shines with Online Seasons

The mode in FIFA 12 that has captured the most of my play-time has been online 'Head-to-Head Seasons'. Reminiscent of 2010 FIFA World Cup in that it offers a ladder of sorts in "divisions" it adds in a fantastic new way of matchmaking which creates the most fair of pairings possible. Despite the struggles with my record all of the games have been thoroughly enjoyable - making it something I want to come back to as often as possible even when anticipating a loss. For anything online relate...
  • NBA 2K12 Patch Introduces New Headaches

The patch that hit for the 360 yesterday was supposed to fix some of the connection issues plaguing NBA 2K12 since its release. The entirety of online play has been a disaster of course - but clearing up some of the disconnects would have represented a decent step towards necessary larger scale improvement. Unfortunately the patch has in some ways made the online experience even worse.  (more…)...
  • NBA 2K12 Patch Out for 360; Soon to PS3
    by
    Posted October 13th, 2011 at 5:15 pm 36 Comments »
2K Sports has pushed through a patch for NBA 2K12 already - the sudden announcement and arrival a surprise considering the game released only nine days ago and no indications had been made that one was in the pipeline. Because of the time crunch though it meant the patch would be limited in scale and 2K has tried to dampen expectations by stating it's main (or maybe only) goal was to address the many disconnects occurring in online games. The patch is out for the Xbox 360 and expected on ...
  • UFC Undisputed 3 Roster: Lightweights

The reveal of rosters for UFC Undisputed 3 continues today with the lightweights. Pointed out by many were a few notable names omitted from the light heavyweights yesterday. Despite having the largest roster to date for the franchise it appears to be due primarily to the two new weight classes rather than expanding across the board - in fact each individual weight class is shrinking in numbers. UFC 3 will feature 16 lightweights compared to 22 that were in UFC 2010. Frankie Edgar tops the...
