  • EA Sports Yet To Follow Through With Roster Updates for NBA Jam

EA Sports made the addition of roster updates for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition a big selling-point considering the original reboot from the company the year prior was not supported post-release. They used the disappointment and frustration with that title to market OFE with everything from roster updates to "Team Fire" and "Tag Mode" touted as hype-worthy additions given the disappointment over their omission from the original.  (more…)...
  • #5 of 2011: NBA 2K12

Following the remarkable NBA 2K11 (which took home top game honors) was never going to be easy and the NBA lockout compounded on that by severely damaging the value of NBA 2K12. Now that the season is underway the product has surged in terms of relevance. Extreme online problems and removal of Crew, bugs afflicting modes like My Player, and poor communication did the damage that even the lockout couldn't enact - but the primary area 2K12 really delivered on was still quite an accomplishme...
  • NFL Flick Quarterback Impressions

The line of "Flick" games from Full Fat on iOS and Android have become really popular this year. Though simple they are well designed and have the quick and addictive nature that is critical for success on mobile devices. NFL Flick Quarterback arrived for the iPad ($4.99) and iPhone and Android ($2.99) in late November and since then it has become one of my go-to-games when there are a few minutes to burn. Right now a holiday sale is ongoing and all versions are 99 cents! (more…)...
  • Your Purchase Plans for NFL Blitz

January, and particularly the early part of the month, is most often deserted by video game publishers. This coming new year kicks off though with a digitally-distributed offering from EA Sports as January 4th brings about the reboot of NFL Blitz. Going for $15 on XBLA and PSN the game has a good deal of content, far exceeding what was provided with the company's last arcade-style football game (Madden NFL Arcade), but the removal of late hits as dictated by the league and sketchy rosters ha...
  • Madden NFL 12 Upcoming Roster Update Discussion Coming Off Week 16

Just one more week left in the regular season and the playoff picture is still somewhat cloudy in terms of seeding, division winners, and even the final Wild Card spot still being up for grabs in the AFC. The Andrew Luck sweepstakes remains alive too - with the Colts claiming the coveted top spot in the NFL Draft with a loss to the Jaguars and the Rams landing there if the Colts win plus they lose to the 49ers. A few injuries of note include Adrian Peterson and Jake Long being done for th...

The segment of arcade-style sports offerings has largely been dying out over the course of this console generation. There has been a resurrection as of late, with EA Sports bringing back NBA Jam and NFL Blitz in particular, but have done so by shifting them to to digital-downloads at discount prices. WWE All-Stars was a full-fledged retail release that delivered an immense amount of fun and content to justify the price. Better described as a fighting game than a wrestling game All-Stars not ...
  • NFL Blitz Rosters: AFC East and South

Concluding the rollout of the rosters for NFL Blitz via ESPN are those for the AFC East and South. For a look at the others: AFC North and West - NFC West and South - NFC North and East. Each team carries seven offensive (QB, RB, 2WR/TE, 3OL) and seven defensive players (3DL, LB, 3DB) along with a kicker and punter. Though being communicated in a way that these are all the players included in the game I've been told by someone who's played it that there are actually expanded rosters an...
  • Eighth NBA 2K12 Roster Update Available Now; Several New Uniforms Unlocked

The NBA season is now underway and with that comes a brand new roster update for NBA 2K12. The changes include the removal of Jeff Green who is out for the year, Samuel Dalembert signing with the Rockets, DeShawn Stevenson joining the Nets, Mehmet Okur traded to the Nets, Brook Lopez injured (-10 to rating), and Mickael Pietrus released but not yet with the Celtics. The Quincy Pondexter for Greivis Vasquez trade has not been put through yet. The most disappointing thing is no second rounders...
