Since the Xbox 360's launch and subsequent utilization of the Marketplace there has been a great deal of debate over the subject of downloadable content. What is worthwhile? What is a waste? Are companies holding back on things only to release them later as D.C.? Lets take a look at some of the things that have been offered in sports titles thus far to see how the releases have progressed. Madden 07 downloadable stadium (300 MS points = $3.75): A lot of work went into the stadiums, but i...

Microsoft has officially announced a keyboard attachment for the Xbox 360 controller. The main reasoning behind the need for the keyboard is being attributed to the new Windows Live Messaging features being introduced in the spring update. However this will surely be a great addition for anyone who spends time editing rosters in sports games. While the use of a USB keyboard is supported by the 360, this attachment actually will be much more convenient and cut down on the time spent inputtin...
  • Hot Topic 4/7: Devin Hester’s 100 speed rating

Predictably, the reaction to the news of Devin Hester receiving the first ever 100 rating in Madden for his speed has been mixed. Browsing through various forums and sites reporting on the news I've gathered up some of the more common statements that have been made on the topic. "So and so ran a faster 40 time than him" The 40 time does not necessarily have to equate with the speed rating. Some guys just play faster on the field than the 40 time would suggest. He may be the most explosive with...

Amidst all the anger and frustration that has settled in for fans of games that were adversely affected by exclusive licenses comes at least one thing to appreciate and look forward to. The companies who hold the licenses must come up with new ways to generate revenue to offset those costs, and the companies who do not hold them must be more creative and unique in the games that they offer to consumers. NFL Head Coach was released last year by EA Sports, an attempt at a coaching simulation/st...

In all the talk I've done regarding Hester being an ideal choice for the Madden cover, many people have doubted the possibility. However now comes a piece on ESPN.com in the "Countdown to the Cover" series detailing how Hester has achieved the first ever perfect 100 score in a rating category. He will have a 100 in speed. Chicago return man Devin Hester has attained perfection in the "Speed" category, gaining the maximum 100 rating in the upcoming Madden NFL 08 for his amazing wheels. Hes...

While the actual MLB season just started, it seems its not too early to discuss the problems in MLB 2K7 along with part of the plan for next year's title. IGN sat down with the Lead Designer for the 2K series Ben Brinkman to get his response to feedback on 2K7 and how he plans to steer the franchise in the coming year. "MLB 2K7 was the first step in a long process of reinventing the 2K Sports baseball brand and the MLB franchise. 2K7 was year one of that, and a lot of that was just getting...
  • Hot topic 4/5: MLB 07 The Show on PS3

Posted April 5th, 2007 at 1:41 am No Comments »
With the positive buzz that has surrounded the franchise the last couple years, the PS3 version of MLB 07: The Show was highly anticipated going into this baseball gaming season. However the game has been pushed back multiple times, and the only media released were a few underwhelming screens back on March 1st. The lack of information had brought speculation that the game could actually be called off for this year. However a rep from SCEA posted on the Operation Sports forum yesterday to h...
  • Devin Hester for Madden 08 cover athlete

In the look at potential candidates for the cover of Madden 08 that I wrote up a while back, I mentioned Devin Hester as a darkhorse pick. While special teams may seem like an extremely unlikely choice to be represented on the cover, someone like Hester breaks out of that mold after a season in which he became a household name. Special teams in Madden is in dire need of improvement and he would present that focus well as the cover man. It would be hard to argue many players were more important t...
