IGN has posted up a few new items for Backbreaker, the new football game coming from NaturalMotion. Included are three technical videos featuring the game's tackling physics and a developer diary that talks more about the tackling and what you are seeing in the vids. In many places Backbreaker is being viewed as more of a tech demo than a game. These short clips will reinforce that feeling somewhat. Eventually there will have to be more to the game than just tackling, even if it seems des...
  • The media freaks out over minor injury to Vince Young
    by
    Posted October 18th, 2007 at 3:00 pm 18 Comments »
Vince Young strained his right quad muscle in the game on Sunday against Tampa Bay and is currently listed as day-to-day. It is possible he may not even miss this weekend's game against the Texans. This news would be considered pretty minor in the grand scheme of things but that hasn't been the case as numerous outlets have jumped on the opportunity to proclaim that the Madden cover jinx has struck again! Apparently there was the need to reach for a story and this one was too convenient. ...
  • FIFA 08: Impressions and Be a Pro video

I've been able to spend a little time with FIFA 08 in order to collect some impressions along with recording an entire game from the new Be A Pro mode. For an in-depth look at FIFA 08 I'd highly recommend you check out the article posted by Shawn at 5w-g by clicking here. A couple quick notes regarding online play. All the games I played have been completely lag-free with a constant frame rate so that was good to see. Interestingly there is no indicator shown above the player that your...
  • EA announces second cover featuring steroid user in less than a week

In a bizarre coincidence, EA has announced a new cover athlete for the Spanish language version of Madden 08, Luis Castillo of the San Diego Chargers. Last Thursday fellow teammate Shawne Merriman won the vote to be on the cover of NFL Tour. That means that in less than a week two players who have been either caught (Merriman) or admitted to (Castillo) taking steroids will be the new representatives for these games. Electronic Arts announced today that Madden NFL 08 En Español will be ...
  • March Madness 08 footage and producer interview

Recently the first details and screenshots for March Madness 08 were released, and now the first gameplay footage along with a producer interview have made their way out via Gametrailers. There certainly appears to be an NBA Live look to the game, and the interview touches on many of the same topics that Live did leading up to its release such as the focus on five-on-five fundamentals and enhancements to post play. There is also more about team momentum and player composure, game modes bo...

  • Screenshot comparison: March Madness 08 vs College Hoops 2K8

Recently the first screenshots from both EA Sports' March Madness 08 and 2K Sports' College Hoops 2K8 made their way out. I've taken three comparable screens from each and paired them up for a closer look at the graphical match-up between them. With College Hoops due out on November 20th and March Madness on December 18th, the two games don't really go up head-to-head, but inevitably they will be compared to one another in features, graphics, and gameplay. March Madness screens are on top...
