Just came across the wire. It has been known for a while that Take Two was in financial trouble and that led many to believe EA would be interested in acquiring them. In all likelihood this would signal the end of 2K Sports at least in the way we know their current operations to be. There is now a website eataketwo.com that contains an open letter from EA CEO John Riccitiello. EA will be hosting a conference call tomorrow at 5am PT / 8am ET to discuss in greater detail. More to follow... ...
  • MLB 2K8 trading card system detailed

My perception of the MLB 2K8 trading card feature completely changed coming out of the conference call. Prior to that it didn't really interest me. I remember my original thought was it seemed like a feature made with the purpose of being used for promotion of the game and that it would end up as little more than a gimmick. That was probably due in part to the lame Madden cards of years past. However after coming to the realization that they are essentially an extension of Xbox Live achie...

Earlier today I had the opportunity to sit in on a conference call with producer Ben Brinkman of 2K Sports' Major League Baseball 2K8. I took notes throughout the call which went on for over an hour and have put together a summary of the more notable responses and themes. Overall the focus this year was on adding significant depth along with the gameplay improvements. They needed to add content to a good playing game. Some of which includes the new pitching, hitting, and fielding mechanic...
  • MLB 08: The Show release moved up?

While no official word has been made a couple interesting developments suggest that MLB 08: The Show could be releasing next week. A few weeks ago I wrote on how historically the baseball titles move up their release as the original date nears. The MLB does not require that all the games come out on the same day. So the companies have used this opportunity to get a jump on the competition in the past. Amazon today changed the release date for The Show from 3/4 to 2/28. Gamefly has chan...
  • NBA Live OTP night six

The sixth night of NBA Live 08 OTP will be on Saturday the 23rd at 5PT/8ET. Per request this week will feature one matchup of lower rated teams and another of international teams. Once again there will be a full game or highlight video, stats, and short recaps by Monday. Also I wanted to mention that there is a special OTP night in the works. This could be next week or the week after (the new roster update should be out beforehand) and would bring in some NBA Live producers to play along....

A while back SCEA released a trailer (in the mold of a tutorial) for the Road to the Show 2.0 mode in MLB 08. Now there is a new video available that shows off some other elements of the mode with more actual gameplay footage from the individual camera perspective. There is no narration in this video as it breezes by aspects such as the CAP, advancement goals, base coach signs, and stats pages along with the gameplay. This is the most anticipated aspect of the game for me. As I've ment...
  • MLB 2K8 Big Head Mode

2K has sent over a few screenshots showing off the "Big Head" mode from MLB 2K8. These actually remind me a little of The BIGS in their look as they appear to fall more on the exaggerated side than going way overboard. I'm always amused by modes such as this, sometimes it's a relief to not take the games so seriously and just have fun with them. Click the thumbnails below to view the images full size. ...

They've also just announced the full lineup of tennis stars that will be found in the game.
