While the NBA once considered giving out an exclusive license they decided against it, instead choosing to keep the competition and have multiple games available. In addition they gave EA and Midway the right to put out arcade style basketball games in alternate years. For the arcade games that is about to change. Midway is struggling as a company and is now attempting to buy itself out of the licensing deal. That isn't as surprising as the news that EA Sports is putting the Street series...
  • NCAA Basketball 09 Release Date Change (Confirmed)

Both Gamefly and Amazon have changed the release date for NCAA Basketball 09 to Tuesday November 18th. While there is no confirmation of a push up in release for the game it does seem curious that two retailers would change it from the previously announced December 3rd with both settling on a date two weeks earlier. Currently the official website for the game and Gamestop still display NCAA as releasing in the first week of December. Occasionally release dates on retail sites will fluctua...
  • NBA 2K9 PC Copies Missing Activation Codes

The PC community was very pleased when 2K Sports announced that NBA 2K9 would be releasing a PC version. This amounts to the first attempt for 2K and with the platform vacated by EA Sports they have the basketball crowd to themselves this year. Anticipation was made even higher when it was stated the game would be a port of the 360 version rather than the PS2 version as Live had been offering up until this year. Though it lacks any online functionality there seemed to be a pretty large conti...

Last night I had my first opportunity to get some time with Be a Pro: Online Team Play in FIFA 09. This year FIFA has expanded up to 10 vs 10 with only the goalie being CPU controlled. Also implemented is the Club system seen in NHL 09 and NBA Live 09. In my first game I took on the LB position for Milan going up against Barcelona. The game ended in a 1-1 tie when Barcelona scored with just a few minutes remaining. It seems there is no OT in OTP. The game was completely full...20 differen...

The World Series begins on Wednesday with the Philadelphia Phillies taking on the the Tampa Bay Rays. Homefield advantage once again goes to the AL team. Few would've predicted this pairing before the season. This is a pretty intriguing match-up and it's nice to have two teams that haven't been there in a while (or ever in the case of the Rays) playing for the championship. I'll be in Vegas through games 3-5 so I'm looking forward to taking it all in from the comfort of a sportsbook. The ...
  • Blitz: The League II Impressions

The excessive nature of the original Blitz: The League turned me off from even wanting to try it. Despite that I heard some good things about the game so I decided to give Blitz: The League II a shot. While I don't know if it has been specifically toned down from the original I didn't get the same feeling about it. Maybe it was the marketing, or lack thereof this time around. I tend to enjoy arcade style sports games as long as they meet the following criteria: They have to be access...

The EA Sports World functionality that allows an online dynasty in NCAA Football 09 to be viewed online has is available now. You can go directly to the NCAA Football 09 online dynasty page of EASW by clicking here. This has apparently been functioning for a few weeks now, however it appears that you are left hanging when in the off-season portion of the dynasty. The page will just show a constant "loading" message. If it isn't going to display anything during the off-season then they rea...

Operation Sports has posted another producer blog for NCAA Basketball 09. This one focuses on the feedback that was received at the community event and changes that have taken place in direct response to it. FIFA 09 was released this last week to overwhelming praise. While it is difficult for me to imagine finding long-term appeal in a soccer game I would've said the same about a hockey game before playing NHL 09. Look for some basic impressions and a write-up on the 10 vs 10 Online...
