It remains clear that the direction EA Sports is supposedly heading with the names for this year's crop of games and beyond is not well liked. Current plans are to label them with 10. Madden 10, NCAA Football 10, NBA Live 10, and so on. With over 5000 unique visitors having voted 57% have gone for using 2010, while only 7% have chosen 10. It is so disliked that the other two more off-the-wall suggestions of Madden using roman numerals and 20-10 even beat out 10, with them combining for 35...
  • The Yankees Positioned As Top Video Game Team

For those looking forward to the MLB 09 The Show and MLB 2K9 it is always interesting to evaluate the free agent signings and contemplate how big of an impact they will have. The rosters that will ship with the games lock in mid-January meaning we are nearing that point. Release day roster updates have become the norm though negating the significance of the roster lockdown dates. Even when the Yankees are not the best team in baseball they always seem to translate as the best, or at least o...

  • Padrecast: MLB 09 The Show Fact Sheet

It's the return of the Padrecast! After doing a handful of them last year I wasn't really satisfied with what I was able to offer on my own. The idea though is to have a shorter, more focused discussion that is unedited and just presented as-is. I'm joined by my OS Waiver Wire co-host Chase Becotte in what should be a continuing series of them. It's a change of pace from the normal show we would do. To kick it off we wanted to discuss the MLB 09 The Show fact sheet. We basically just run ...

Earlier today I joined Chris Jacobs (CDJ) of ncaaStrategies to record the Utopia Podcast. Over the course of an hour and a half we review the year in sports gaming. This is done primarily by going through the Top 10 sports games of the year I laid out over the last couple weeks and discussing each one in detail as well as why some others didn't make the cut. There are also some thoughts added on where the games could be headed next year. To listen to the podcast download it directly here or...
  • #1 of 2008: NCAA Football 09

The NCAA Football series has always filled its role as the first football game of the year effectively holding me over until Madden. I'm more of a fan of the pros than college so there is more attachment to Madden. Once that was released I'd turn my full attention to it even though in many cases NCAA was a better game. That was the case until this year anyway. NCAA Football 09 introduced Online Dynasties which changed the course of sports gaming and how the games can be enjoyed. I'm still...
  • FNR4 Cover Voting Update

Given that is has now been over two weeks since the poll was added to the Fight Night Round 4 website, I thought it would be a good time to check in on the results. The question at hand is who should the cover athlete be for FNR4? Mike Tyson, Muhammed Ali, or both? Nearly 50,000 votes have been cast with there being no real front-runner. Tyson leads with 34.9%, followed by 34.1% for both, and 31% for Ali. Since they allow you to vote as many times as you want the results may not be a comp...

955: Alright all set to go. I've got the Pats @ Bills and Giants @ Vikings as the early games and will follow along with the others. 957: The intense wind I have to think favors the Bills. Both teams may be forced to almost run exclusively. Field goals will be an adventure. 1004: Bad weather games are always fun to watch. Going to be interesting to see how they deal with this wind. 1008: The first punt goes only 13 yards because of the wind. Crazy. (more…)...
