Coming out of the class action lawsuit that the retired NFL players won against the Player's Association was an interesting sequence of questioning around Brett Favre being the Madden 09 cover athlete. You can check out the full story at Gamepolitics. Apparently EA had made the decision to put him on the cover before he retired, then when he did they considered switching to someone else. Instead they stuck with him and sculpted the marketing angle of him representing the 20 years of the fran...

While the screenshot feature being included in the demo is fantastic I know a lot of people were hoping to see some actual demo footage. I started recording a play-through with plans to post up the whole thing. However the first inning had some dramatic moments and lasted 13 minutes so that should be more than enough to watch in one sitting. I prefer to play with the ball cursor and strike zone off and pitch from the pitcher cam. It comes across pretty well in the video how natural the ga...
  • Further Impressions of 3 On 3 NHL Arcade

I was able to get some more time in with 3 on 3 NHL Arcade and my initial feeling on it stands. This is a fun simple game to play against live opponents that has an element of strategy that isn't frustrating like some arcade style sports titles have attempted to implement. And the online play, though short on options, is providing quite a bit of enjoyment. Power-up wise there are some that are I'm finding to be more advantageous than others. The rocket speed for example is of huge benefit...

Even though the demo is out there is still much to learn about MLB 09 The Show as the series of Playstation Blog postings continue. This is the second one they've put out this week and focuses on the Custom Chants and Yells feature as well as MLB Music. You can read the entire article which includes some menus screenshots here. The Custom Chants and Yells feature allows you to record your own voice and hear it in the game, either as a fan yelling from the crowd or as a simulated crowd chant...

Last Friday EA Sports launched their community based blog which kicked off with the first Madden 10 news as well as a great deal of coverage around various events leading up to the Super Bowl. Community Manager Will Kinsler was gracious enough to answer some questions related to what is driving this new initiative at EA. We go back a ways, but for those people out there who aren't familiar with you introduce yourself and your role at EA Sports. I'm the community manager for EA SPORTS ...

Since the community preview event I have gotten many questions regarding how the screenshots were taken. This is a built-in feature of the PS3 tying in with MLB 09 The Show and the demo also includes it. So here is how the screens are taken along with a few I pulled out this evening. (more…)...
  • First Impressions of 3 on 3 NHL Arcade

3 On 3 NHL Arcade hit PSN earlier today and will arrive on XBL next week. I downloaded it and spent some time playing through so I wanted to get some initial impressions up. Going into it I was pretty hopeful considering the enjoyment that arcade hockey games have presented in the past and the very reasonable $9.99 price that comes with a downloadable game. For an arcade game it has a nice amount of options. Three different difficulty levels, two different camera angles, three different g...

Jon Robinson of ESPN has posted up the first part of his MLB 2K9 Franchise Diary series. This is something he did last year with 2K8 as well. The write-up includes the first details on improvements made to Franchise mode as well as an image of the new MLB.com interface. You can read the article in its entirety here. MLB 2K9's Franchise was built from the ground up, adding and improving on things gamers have already praised from the NBA title. The game now features stats-based player progres...
