The Sporting News has posted up an interview with Billy Beane who is a big part of 2K Sports’ recently announced MLB Front Office Manager. While the interview is about more than just the game there are some elements of it that are discussed that were not mentioned in the press release. It is definitely worth a read if you have interest in MLB Front Office Manager, fantasy baseball, and some of his GM philosophies.

There’s one part of the game that I love, which is like owner’s competence — meaning that the better decisions you make over time, you increase your owner’s competence and your ability to make those decisions and, therefore, get sort of more leeway to make more decisions and ultimately, hopefully, have an increased budget, etcetera, etcetera. So, that to me was just a small nuance of this game that is a part of this job that the public really doesn’t see a lot. You want to sort of “manage up,” which is a major part of this job.

Again I’m intrigued by this title for a few reasons. The first is that it is being developed out of Blue Castle, creators of The BIGS. The second is I’ve always loved the micromanagement that comes naturally with with the sport. Many baseball fans are that same way and that is why it may have more potential than NFL Head Coach. The themes just don’t translate as well with football. Finally the big thing I took from the press release has to do with the online fantasy league. Just as with NCAA Football 09’s online dynasty mode, I would find much more value and longevity by being involved with other people in a single league.
