The ’24 Frames’ Blog is reporting that Dimension Films is in talks with Fernley Phillips to write the remake of An American Werewolf in London. Phillips was the writer of 2007’s The Number 23.

Maybe it’s this nostalgia that’s prompting Dimension Films to develop a reboot of “An American Werewolf in London.” The Weinstein Co. division bought remake rights to the 1981 classic, which starred Naughton as a U.S. tourist who believes he’s being hunted by a werewolf, from Landis in June 2009.

Now the company is in talks with a writer, Fernley Phillips, best known for scripting Jim Carrey’s “The Number 23,” to give it a modern spin, sources say.

I’ve always been a fan of the ‘Werewolf’ movies, including 1997’s An American Werewolf in Paris. I kind of skeptical about this film considering who the writer is. I really didn’t enjoy The Number 23, and I really don’t care to see some computer animated werewolf like the one that we saw in ‘Paris’. On a totally unrelated note, the article also mentioned that a Teen Wolf remake was in the works. I wonder when film companies will stop remaking 80’s classics that have no business being remade. The Karate Kid, The Last Dragon and now Teen Wolf? Three of my favorite movies growing up, and have already been or are in the process of being remade with a modern storyline.
