Samuel L. Jackson signed on to a nine picture deal as Nick Fury in the Marvel movies. So far he has appeared in the two Iron Man films, will show up in Captain America, and will be a big part of The Avengers. In an interview earlier this week he broke some news though by revealing plans for a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie which is something that Marvel has not made any mention of previously. According to Jackson it could release in 2013.
The Avengers should start shooting some time next year, and then some time after that there’ll be a big S.H.I.E.L.D. movie.
Nick Fury oversees the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization which deals with superhuman threats. So far we know S.HI.E.L.D. also includes Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Natalie Rushman aka “Black Widow” (Scarlett Johansson). Theoretically one or both could be involved in the project and of course by the time the movie is made there will likely have been several other prominent characters introduced. The opportunity would be there to continue along the same timeline or even flash back and present an origin story that could be very compelling.
