What may be the most anticipated movie of the year Avatar opens next Friday. Certainly it has experienced an eventful buildup which is all now coming to a head. The talk of the project revolutionizing film visuals, expectations being a James Cameron film, fantastic trailer and heavy marketing campaign has led to some inevitable backlash to the hype.
However now the movie has been screened for select critics and while there is an embargo until Monday some comments are being made. The excitement over the movie seems to suggest anything but disappointment. I’ve collected just a sample from Twitter to post below though many more are going up there along the same lines as these.
Peter Sciretta (Slashfilm): I’m not allowed to say anythng about what I thought of Avatar, but saw it in a screening room with neill blomkamp, who didn’t sign an NDA. He loved it… I will say this, it’s hard to disagree with Neil
Harry Knowles (AICN): an astonishing sensory experience unlike anything I’ve seen on film. Holy fuck wow. – I wonder what that could be about… ahem
C. Robert Cargill (AICN): So I just got back from a movie. It was pretty great…if by pretty great I mean OMFGHOLYFUCKINGSHITOMGOMGOMG. Because that’s what it was.
Neil Miller (Film School Rejects): I’m not supposed to talk about Avatar… That said, it was a spectacular experience. Like nothing I’ve seen before.
Peter Shall (Cinematical): The AVATAR buzz is an understatement. That movie was unbelievable
Comingsoon.net: Okay, about Avatar?….WOWOWOWOWOWOW! Unbelievable…amazing.
Alex Billington (FirstShowing.net): James Cameron is a freakin’ genius! I can’t say much but wow, I loved it. Avatar was phenomenal, pretty much blew me away.
