V Premieres Tonight

The premiere of V takes place tonight on ABC at 8PM. V is a remake of the 1984 mini-series about an alien race that arrives and presents themselves as friendly but really have sinister motives. The show stars Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost), Morena Baccarin (Firefly), Scott Wolf (Party of Five) and Joel Gretsch (The 4400).

It has been difficult to get a feel for how well V is going to be received. ABC has been promoting it heavily and the show has a lot of potential. At the same time it almost seems the network has doomed by deciding to air it in “pod” form. The first four episodes will air throughout November and then the show will be off until March. ABC has described this as a way to give it an event feel but most outsiders see it as a sign that they don’t have much confidence and should the show fail early on they would be able to cut their losses. There has also been coverage of a several week hiatus in production where speculation was the show was receiving an overhaul.

Still I’m definitely looking forward to it. The cast is talented, the storyline is intriguing, and reviews of the pilot have been strong.
