The comedy series Community, which once actually predicted it would have “six seasons and a movie”, was cancelled by NBC back in March after a five season run. It’s not the end however as Yahoo has shockingly picked up the show for a sixth season. Sony TV made the deal with Yahoo Screen for a 13 episode run.
“I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo,” said show creator Dan Harmon in a statement. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”
Community always had a very passionate fan base but never had especially strong ratings. It remained stable however allowing NBC to make several surprising renewals over the years as other comedies on their lineup fizzled out. The hope most had was for Hulu or Netflix to come in and give the show another season but ultimately it was Yahoo making the deal.
