Disney has reached an agreement with Paramount that gives them the right to market and distribute future Indiana Jones films. The company already acquired ownership rights after purchasing Lucasfilm. The deal is similar to what they had to strike in the past for both Iron Man and The Avengers.
What this signals is a clear plan to release a fifth Indiana Jones movie. Considering what they are doing now with Star Wars – releasing a new one every two or three years and filling the gaps with standalone films centered on individual characters – there could possibly even be a road map in place for more beyond the next one. Though many were disappointed with the fourth entry, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it made nearly $800 million worldwide.
