James Cameron has revealed that Stephen Lang, who played Colonel Miles Quaritch in Avatar, will be returning for the three planed sequels. Given his demise in the first there are numerous theories on how he’ll reappear but nothing concrete as of yet.
Cameron: “Steven was so memorable in the first film, we’re privileged to have him back. I’m not going to say exactly how we’re bringing him back, but it’s a science fiction story, after all. His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who’s also become a good friend.”
In August it was announced that the two planned sequels have now expanded to three. Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Planet of the Apes), and Shane Salerno (Savages) have been tasked with writing the scripts. The three movies will be filmed simultaneously and release in December 2016, 2017, and 2018.
