Chicharito Joins Messi on FIFA 14 Cover in North America

EA Sports has announced that Mexican national team star Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez will appear alongside worldwide cover athlete Lionel Messi on the cover of FIFA 14. The duo will share the cover in Mexico and the United States. Different players will be featured with Messi in other regions across the globe. 

Chicharito is a natural goal scorer beloved by fans in Mexico for his exceptional performances and goal-scoring track record since he took the world stage with the Mexican national team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. The 25-year-old is already the fifth highest goal scorer of all-time for the Mexican national team. In addition, Chicharito has gained international admiration for three incredibly successful seasons with Manchester United Football Club.

Consumers in the US will have the choice of this cover or the universal one that features Messi without anyone else in the background. That “choice” is likely just to be getting whatever a retailer presents with or ships at purchase however.

It’s a multi-year deal that EA struck with Chicharito that will see him appear on the cover of the game in Mexico and the US and utilize him heavily in marketing and social media campaigns. For this year though it appears to only apply to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game with Messi alone on the cover of the PS4 and Xbox One versions.
