Less than two weeks after announcing the acquisition of LucasFilm and the intent to release new Star Wars films beginning in 2015 Disney has made an official announcement regarding the screenwriter. While much of the speculation for now understandably centers on who will be selected to direct it’s a critical step to have settled on the screenwriter and one in which brings some additional credibility to the project.
Two-time Academy Award nominated Michael Arndt will write the film. He won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for for Little Miss Sunshine in 2006 and was a runner-up for Best Adapted Screenplay with Toy Story 3 in 2010. He has a full plate ahead with immense responsibility taking on Star Wars: Episode VIIÂ but appears to be clear of the several projects already in production including The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and the Phineas and Ferb movie.
