Dreamworks has released the full theatrical trailer for Real Steel which has been picking up steam as a potential blockbuster. The studio is so encouraged by what they’ve seen that work has already begun on a sequel. This trailer is great so it’s clear why they are so high on the project which has widespread appeal.
In Real Steel the year is 2020 with boxing between humans having been outlawed and replaced by combat between giant robots. Hugh Jackman stars as a former boxer turned trainer/promoter that rescues a robot named Atom from a junkyard and enters it in the World Robot Boxing League. Motion-capture animation is used for when the machines are fighting (and Sugar Ray Leonard advised on those sequences) but 19 actual animatronic robots were built for scenes with the human actors. Real Steel is slated to release on October 7th.
