The preparation of a “subscription service” by EA Sports has created widespread discussion throughout gaming communities. Though nothing is official yet the documents and surveys circulating suggest optional value add-ons for a yearly fee ranging from $14.99 to $34.99 are on the way. The “service” looks to be akin to a loyalty program, an idea EA also flirted with in the past, though with an upfront fee and perks that go beyond simple discounts.
Comments regarding the idea of a subscription have ranged from extreme interest in particular due to the ability transfer DLC from one iteration to the next and get games early, to those who feel such a program is the introduction of a slippery slope that will lead to current features being removed from games and then made available for an additional charge.
Vote in the poll below regarding your potential interest in a “subscription service” that would provide games up to a full week early, transferring of DLC from year to year, discounts on DLC, and more at the costs mentioned earlier. Leave additional thoughts in the comments. The results and analysis will be posted next week.
