Sony Pictures today officially announced the theatrical adaptation of 21 Jump Street and that Channing Tatum will be joining Jonah Hill in the starring roles. The film is co-written by Michael Bacall and Jonah Hill and will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs).
“Jonah helped create a smart and funny vehicle that is tailor-made for him and Channing. They are a perfect duo for this film and Phil and Chris have a terrific, accessible take on the material. We love how this movie has come together and are very excited to begin production this spring.”
The popular television series ran from 1987-1991 and starred Johnny Depp. The story focuses on a police squad that specializes in blending in with high school or college students for undercover operations. 21 Jump Street is being targeted for a March 16th 2012 release date.
