The idea of producing a sequel to the film True Lies has been discussed ever since it was released back in 1994. Directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger it went on to make nearly $400 million worldwide. As the years have gone on it has seemed to be increasingly less likely that a sequel would ever come about.
It may not be a sequel but news has hit today that True Lies is being developed as a TV series with Cameron on as executive producer. Rene Echevarria (Dark Angel, 4400, Medium, Castle) is attached as the writer and showrunner. The show is about to be pitched to networks so no deals, prospective start dates, or potential casting has been determined. Given Tom Arnold’s excitement over the years regarding the idea of a sequel (and it probably being the role was most likable in throughout his whole career) it would be interesting to see if he ends up being involved.
