Starz Cancels Party Down

The news that Party Down will not see a third season comes as little surprise but for fans of the series it will still be disappointing. Starz has officially decided to cancel the show. Prospects for a third season were never encouraging even before the axe came down. Ratings were poor (the recent season two finale got 74,000 viewers on its first airing) despite critical love and passionate fans and star Adam Scott was only contracted for another three episodes if there were to be another season.

I just recently ran through both seasons and really enjoyed it. If I had known that it was practically a Veronica Mars reunion I would have been in from the start. Starz has done a good job to establish themselves as a player with Spartacus and Party Down, though the latter never caught on, so hopefully they’ll continue to develop compelling original programming up to their quality level.
