Maybe the first good indicator in some time for Backbreaker as the demo has cleared approval with Microsoft and Sony. That likely means it will be out next Tuesday. All along the importance of the demo has been stressed for the game and though a week before release isn’t ideal it would seem to be enough to allow judgments to be made on the game.
Ironically if it does hit on Tuesday it will be up against the release day of UFC 2010 Undisputed. UFC debuted last year and used its demo to propel itself to become the second biggest sports title of the year. With the demo Backbreaker would hope to increase awareness and (if the demo is impressive) spur positive word of mouth.
There is also now talk of Backbreaker 2 being confirmed. Make no mistake about it a sequel to Backbreaker will be dependent on how well the game is received and its sales performance. It is definitely encouraging that the current thought is not to abandon it as a potential franchise, however its fate is still up in the air. NHL 2K11 was in development…until it wasn’t. All-Pro Football 2K8 had been planned as the start of a bi-yearly franchise. Response and sales will be the driving factor in whether the series continues.
