According to the LA Times a subscription service that will come with a cost of $9.95 a month is set to be rolled out by Hulu as early as a month from now. This possibility had been talked about by Hulu execs back in October but then when the story ended up being widely circulated the idea was played down. Despite that everyone completely expected it would be coming down the line at some point. Hulu provides episodes of popular ABC, NBC and Fox programs.
The $9.95 service will be deemed “Hulu Plus” will provide a wider catalog of TV shows to watch. The most recent five episodes would remain free, but to go back and watch earlier episodes would require the subscription plan. No mention is made in the LA Times article on whether ads would play a role in “Hulu Plus”. It had previously been thought that one perk of a potential subscription plan would be the removal of commercials but that may not be the case anymore.
