Haley Atwell Cast as Peggy Carter in Captain America

Though everything has settled down now that Chris Evans has been cast as Steve Rogers in Captain America, there was still another important role that was to be determined. A few weeks of rumors included names such as Keira Knightley and Alice Eve being screen-tested. However it is British actress Haley Atwell that has been cast as Peggy Carter, the Captain’s girlfriend during World War II. Atwell joins Evans, Hugo Weaving, and Sebastian Stan as the main roles established for the film which is slated to be out July 22 2011.

Marvel Studios announced today that Hayley Atwell has been cast to star as Peggy Carter in the studio’s highly anticipated movie CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER opposite Chris Evans. In the early comics, Peggy Carter fell in love with Captain America while they fought together in the war effort. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation.
