Superherohype.com had the chance to sit down with director Zack Snyder to discuss his upcoming movies. Among the topics discussed were a re-release of 2007’s 300 in 3D, and the prequel. Apparently, Warner Bros. converted a piece of 300 into 3D to show the director how the conversion looked. Snyder was impressed and confirmed that there is talk of re-releasing the whole film in 3D. Snyder went on to say that he may direct the 300 prequel, Xerxes, sometime after he completes Sucker Punch.
“I’m waiting on Frank (Miller) for the sequel to ‘300’ and there’s a really good chance that will be the thing we do,” he said, “He’s been working hard, so he’s supposed to show me something really soon; actually in the next few months, he’s going to show me something. There was a big discussion about what we would do for the sequel to ‘300’ and I said, “I didn’t tell Frank what to write the first time, and I’m not telling him what to write this time,” he told us when asked who came up with the idea for Xerxes. “I’ll take it and I’ll adapt it and make it into a movie and I’ll write a screenplay, but I want him to do whatever he thinks. I’m not going to say I’m 100%, like that’s it, but on the other hand, I’m pretty confident it’s going to be awesome. That would be the next thing and then I’m working on a sci-fi thing that Kurt and I are writing together, an original thing.”
As a fan of 300, I would definitely love to see it again at the IMAX in 3D. It’s been three years since the original release, and I’m sure technology has gotten better since that that we’d see even better visuals. As far as the prequel Xerxes, I’m really not sure how I feel about it. I think Miller will do a great job writing, but I’d much rather see a prequel centered around King Leonidas. We got a quick glimpse of how he became king, but not nearly enough of details. We’ll probably hear more after Synder’s Sucker Punch releases next year.
