Warner Brothers announced at ShoWest yesterday that all of the studio’s tentpole movies from now on will be released in 3D. That includes all superhero films or any big budget special effects driven films. WB will be releasing five 3D movies this year and are expected to have nine next year. It was made clear that the 3D initiative would include those in the line of DC Comics, which means the Superman reboot and next Batman film will be released in 3D.
It is unknown how many of these movies will be filmed in 3D vs being converted in post-production. WB has spoken highly of the conversion process, which has been utilized on the upcoming Clash of the Titans. However WB showed off some of Titans in 3D at ShoWest, as well as some screenings having taken place already, and the reaction has been at best underwhelming if not primarily disappointment regarding the final product. So hopefully WB makes it a standard to shoot the movies in 3D given that the difference is significant.
