Robert De Niro To Play Vince Lombardi

News has made its way out that Robert De Niro has signed on for the role of Vince Lombardi in the story about the legendary NFL coach. Lombardi is now in development with backing from ESPN and the NFL. The script is being written by Academy Award winner Eric Roth, who has a stellar history which includes Benjamin Button, Munich, Ali, The Insider, and Forrest Gump.
The movie is expected to cover the career of Vince Lombardi from the time he took over the Green Bay Packers through the events that lead them to three straight NFL Championships and the first two Super Bowl Championships. It is also expected to highlight the rivalry between Lombardi and Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry. Lombardi is heading for a 2012 release.
