After premiering very well the focus turned to how Chuck would hold up in its standard time slot on Monday nights at 8pm. There was thought that going head-to-head with House along with CBS’ monster comedies and The Bachelor would eat into its ratings, but it appears that the competition provided by a huge Simpsons ratings draw on Sunday was comparable to what it faced on Monday night.
Chuck pulled in 7.3 million viewers and had a strong 2.6 showing in the 18-49 demo. Those numbers provided NBC the best showing in that time slot in the year following the special 3D episode of Chuck. That Chuck held up so well is a great sign of support and could be an indication that the season ahead will provide reason for renewal which seemed like a long shot just a few months ago. It is incredibly rare that ratings go up from one season to the next but that is what has occurred with Chuck.
Meanwhile Heroes got all-time lows drawing only 4.7 million viewers. Considering the costs associated with the show it has long been assumed it would die out after this season. That was before the ratings started consistently challenging all-time low levels.
Because of the lack of established original programming at NBC there has been some talk recently of actually bringing Heroes back for a fifth season. In fact the season finale apparently ends with a cliffhanger. It’s time to put it out of its misery and these ratings only provide more evidence for justifying that decision.
