EA Sports MMA Rumored for September

While an official release date for EA Sports MMA has not yet been revealed rumors are making their way out that it is headed for September. MiddleEasy has cited details from a European magazine that states the intention is to release in September along with some other new details on the game. That is much later than most would have anticipated considering how long it has been in development and the expectation that it would want to hit the market before UFC 2010 Undisputed.

I have been anticipating (maybe wrongly so) that EA MMA to jump in front of UFC and arrive possibly in early April. I don’t see how it could do all that well in September. It would distance itself from UFC by over three months which is sufficient in that regard. However it places it right in the midst of numerous other sports game releases that could overshadow it while also creating marketing conflicts. Including it there would make it five high profile EA Sports games to hit the market in just a two month span. Starting with Madden in mid-August followed by NHL, NBA Live, and ending with FIFA in mid-October. If it needs that development time and wouldn’t be ready earlier that would be understandable but it would make more sense to slide it into November.
